Candidates and Wards
The voting system and Council wards were changed for the May 2007 elections. The 34 existing wards, each with one Councillor, were replaced with 11 new super wards with three Councillors each (apart from Galashiels and District which has four Councillors). The voting system changed to a form of Proportional Representation known as the Single Transferable Vote. For more information visit the Vote Scotland website.
The Borders Party contested seven of the 11 super wards. Sandy Aitchison and Nicholas Watson were successfully elected to the Galashiels and District and Leaderdale and Melrose wards respectively.
